Top 10 Basketball Hoops
1 | Lifetime 1221 Pro Court Height-Adjustable Portable Basketball System with 44-Inch Backboard |
| The middle pole did not fit inside the top pole as it is supposed to. My wife and I are both mechanically inclined, and it is clear to us that the pole was not manufactured to specs. Whoever packed the poles in the box knew they didn't fit properly, because they "made" them fit by reversing the direction of the poles when they packed them. I had to add WD-40 and stand on a tall ladder to pound down on the two poles to make them fit together (not an easy task!). Also, the two plugs to keep the water/sand in the base were made of cheap plastic instead of rubber and broke easily (minor complaint). The only reason I did not give this product just one star is because, once we got it set up, it's good for the price I paid. However, I can't give it more than two stars because many people could not have assembled the actual misfitting parts we received. | |
2 | SKLZ Pro Mini Hoop Small Scale Basketball System |
| I bought this for an indoor game room. It took about 30 seconds to remove the door brackets with an automatic screw driver. We then used the existing holes and mounted it to a wall. Works great. The ball it came with is extremely nice but too heavy for an indoor hoop. I don't think it would damage the hoop, but it would definitely damage the speakers and stuff we have in the game room. We just use a nerf ball instead. This product is highly recommended. You can pay like $20 for a cheap nerf hoop or $19 for this one that looks much nicer and actually has a durable metal rim and plexi-glass backboard. | |
3 | Spalding 72354 Portable Basketball System with 48-Inch PolyCarbonate Backboard |
| We purchased this for our son two Christmas's ago or 20 months. The backboard is thin, but worked fine for our 11 year old. He also had no trouble adjusting the height which was great. Moving it around was fairly easy when needed but it pretty much sat in the same place in the backyard. I remember it taking a couple hours to put together. We have enjoyed this basketball hoop....but...
The base of the basketball hoop started to crack about 5 months ago...not a problem then but when the ball would hit the base in the right spot, the base would crack a little more. Now it is cracked all around and doesn't hold water. We called the company and asked if we could purchase a new one last month. They sold us a new one for a little less than $50 but it is backlogged till November. We must not be the only ones with this problem. Our friends have the same hoop and they are getting cracks in it now, but not as bad as ours yet. I love reading reviews and appreciate feedback when making a decision on a purchase. This was a good product for the price and we have got much enjoyment out of it. Maybe we just got a bad base and they had a bad mix of plastics. It should have lasted longer than it did and wanted to share that with others.
4 | Spalding Youth NBA Portable Basketball System with 32-inch EcoComposite Fan Backboard |
| My 4 year old son got this as a Christmas present from his Aunt. Three months later during a mild storm the backboard completely broke off. The company would not replace the backboard because it was due to an "act of nature"... Not many other ways for an outside basketball hoop to be harmed, is there? My son is heartbroken! Don't waste your time or money on this product! | |
5 | Lifetime 1269 Pro Court Portable Basketball System with 44" Acrylic Fusion Backboard |
| The kids love this hoop, my oldest is 12. It is very stable and stood up to a large wind storm. I like the larger backboard. | |
6 | Lifetime 71799 In-Ground Basketball System with 50-Inch Shatter Guard Backboard |
| The basketball hoop was shipped very fast (couple of days). But the missing parts and replacement of wrong parts took about 10 days to receive. It took a couple of days to put together because the instructions is unclear & complicated. There's even a part "M" mentioned in the instructions when there is no such part, which they later explained was a typo. Well, the hoop is up now and my son is now enjoying his basketball games with his friends. Backboard not too sturdy but good considering the cost. | |
7 | Lifetime Complete Portable Basketball System, 48" Shatter Guard Backboard |
| My son and his friends are on this thing for hours. Took us a few hours to install, but not too difficult. | |
8 | Huffy 88300S ExactaHeight Adjustable Pole Basketball Hoop System |
| First, Amazon's picture for this product is terribly misleading, since it does NOT include a backboard!
Second, the directions are very poorly written. Huffy/Spalding claim this pole will work with any of their backboards, but it's up to you to guess how to put it together. I bought a 44" SlamJam backboard by Spalding, and none of the instructions for the backboard or pole seemed to jive. Worse, the closest approximation had no numbered diagrams. Customer service, while friendly, was of no help whatsoever. If you enjoy wasting your time trying to interpret directions, this is the perfect gift.
9 | Spalding 8406S Universal Mounting Bracket |
| I bought this mounting bracket to install my Huffy backboard. The backboard company, Huffy, recommended the installation bracket. No big shock since they are both the same company (which I found out later). Anyhow, right away I could tell this wasn't going to be easy or fun. The holes in the mounting bracket were drilled wrong so I had to re-drill new holes, through metal (yay), just to put the bracket together. But then I discover, after drilling the holes, that the assembly requires 14 of a particular nut/bolt/washer set, and the package only comes with twelve. When you read the parts manifest it even says it comes with 12. But when you put it together, it instructs you to use 14, and shows 14 in the diagrams. Nice.
Okay, moving on. When you get to page 13 of the instruction manual and you are realizing that they've (The Chinese) screwed you out of the essential tools and parts which render this mounting bracket obsolete, you discover a little note on the bottom of the page which states: The hardware required to mount this bracket to the wall is NOT included. What? What did I buy then? Where's the hardware set for the hardware? How is this universal?! You mean to tell me that you can assemble the whole thing (if you're a freaking mechanical engineer, that is), only to discover that you have to prop the thing against the wall because you can't hang it on the wall of the garage?! And then, the whole time you're trying not to lose your mind, you have your kids there saying over and over again in some nightmare of a litany, "Dad, when will it be ready? Dad, when will it be ready?" So what do you do? You call customer service and guess what? An answering machine. Always an answering machine. They NEVER answer the phone. Evidently they screen their calls. So by the time you've called them three times, and they can tell you're a bit peeved, forget about getting a call back. Never gonna happen, chap. My advice. Go to the Salvation Army, buy some rusty old rim, and screw that hoop directly to the wall. That way, at least, the only screwing that will have been done is by you, and not to you.
10 | Huffy 7800 Slam Jam Basketball Rim |
| Needed to replace a broken rim and found this one at Amazon. Overall, installation was easy ... if you just want a "rigid" rim. The hardware (spring and mounting screws) that came along to make it "flexible" didn't work at all because the mounting screw was way too short. But since I can't dunk the ball, this feature wasn't important to me.
For the price I paid and what I needed it for, this rim served the purpose. |
